Art in the Desert
It was a huge privilege to be part of the 2025 Desert Biennial Project alongside so many amazing artists. I submitted a piece called Ancla En La Arena (Anchor In The Sand), and I was honestly surprised by how much it resonated with people. It just goes to show that things rarely go exactly as you expect—starting with the drive in! To get to the dry lake bed, you have to navigate a rough dirt path that had me convinced I was going to get stuck. But looking back, the sketchy drive was just part of the adventure (unless you’re a glass-half-empty kind of person, of course!).
Ancla En La Arena
The piece I submitted was inspired by my cultural heritage and how I carry it with me even now, in the desert. I painted this piece specifically for this exhibition. I researched the environment and the color palette I would need to use. Even when choosing the frame, I imagined how it would blend in with the landscape. Ill admit that I did not think about the plywood my work would be mounted onto, no offense to Baily and Llulia, who both worked so hard to make this show happen.
DBP (my favorite work)
I definitely want to highlight a few of my favorites from the exhibition.
1) Borderland by Valentin Yordanov
2) Topsy by Emily Sarten
3) Western Landscape (Downwinders No. 2) by Kara Savant
